Atlanta would be a nice place to live, if it weren't for the magic. When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it arose.

Kate Daniels works for the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, officially as a liaison with the mercenary guild. Unofficially, she cleans up the paranormal problems no one else wants to handle - especially if they involve Atlanta's shapeshifting community. When she's called in to investigate a fight at the Steel Horse, a bar on the border between the territories of the shapeshifters and the necromancers, Kate quickly discovers that there's a new player in town. One who's been around for thousands of years - and who rode to war at the side of Kate's father. This foe may be too much even for Kate and Curran, the Beast Lord, to handle. Because this time Kate will be taking on family.

The beginning killed me, although I was pissed at the both of them and their childish antics; they were sulking.
But then Kate "broke in,  the Keep...

“Just wait until he figures out I shut him out of his slut hut.”
... And I laughed too hard to stay mad.

And then Curran broke into her office....
“I picked up the phone and dialed Andrea's extension.
“Yes?”
“He glued the chair to my ass.”
Silence.”
... And I was in hysterics

In this installment we are finally getting some real info on Kate, more of her past and her heritage is revealed.
A New Nemesis shows up caring illness that can affect shapechangers and make them go loup.
And when the mystery is revealed Kate will have to fight for her and her friends life's.

Kate&Curran are officially my favorite couple. The antics these two pull, I can't even...
Curran is setting an ultimatum and Kate is the one who has to answer, no running this time.
I loved Curran didn't even flinch at the revelation of the past.

Did I mention the new sidekick, but this time there's no snark, but a lot more fur (oops hair I mean)
A real fighting poodle.

This book left me a slobbering mess. We finally see what Kate is like when fighting for someone else, especially if that "someone" is the person she loves most in the world.
Kate is scary crazy.
I love how Curran is not promising her the stars (he knows she would shoot them down) instead he promises her today and tomorrow if they're still alive, and he will fight for that.

Derek climbed up the Clan pole (Woot!) he's so cool now. I always get the siblings feeling whenever he and Kate interact, you can see how much he's attached to her and how much she dotes on him.
In the future, I want more of that.

The Nr.1 spot for most disappointing character goes to...... (Drum roll please)..... Andrea.
Yes, can you believe it, I am so pissed at her. And I hope she gets her shit in order, or else.

This book was the most personal for Kate, from the choices she made trough the reprobate who could destroy her and  everything and everyone else she came to love.

The ending is like a calm in the storm, you know there is shit about to happen in the sequels, but you have no choice but to wait it out.

PS I had 6 pages of notes for this, quotes not included., I'm nuts....
